We bought them because he had been through his curriculum readers and was bored with them, but he wasn't quite ready to just jump into "real" books. They were a bit of a challenge for him at first, but just enough challenge not to be frustrating and to keep him learning. The books do contain special sounds ("ch," "sh," etc.), but the intro of each book takes a moment to cover the new sounds and any "fun" sight words so he is prepared (not frustrated) ...more
