Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2002-08-06 Summary: comedic chaotic city life! ... What a busy book! Lauren Child has created a tongue-twisting, mind-boggling story about the adventures of two city kids whose Mom must hurry off in help of her own brother, a policeman, who has slipped on a doughnut & hurt his legs. Who can Mom get to babysit her two darlings? Not her older children. Not anyone in her family, nor any neighbors until, her daughter asks about Uncle Ted. What a good idea! Safe in the care of a Fireman, Mom rushes to her other brother's side, & the fun begins! I realize Lauren Child thinks ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2001-06-01 Summary: Rip Roarin' Fun! ... When Clarice Bean's Uncle Ernie slips on a doughnut and breaks both his legs, her mother has to rush to New York and help him out. Unfortunately her dad has to go away on important business and the only person they can find to babysit Clarice, her phone talking older sister, Marcie, her sun hating big brother Kurt, her accident prone little brother Minal and wandering Grandad is Uncle Ted. Clarice is thrilled. Uncle Ted is the best. He's a firefighter who loves westerns, can lasso lamps or kids and has been known to ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2001-02-26 Summary: FULL-ON FUN ... . More fun in the Bean household! Mom has to go to New York, and Dad has to go away on IMPORTANT BUSINESS. So who looks after Clarice, Marcie, Minal, Kurt and Grandad while Mom and Dad are away? As a last resort Mom calls in Uncle Ted. After only two days of normality chaos takes over. Albert the Guinea Pig gets lost, Minal has an accident and Grandad wanders off. Lauren Child's book is a long way removed from the pastel coloured world of traditional kid's books. The illustrations are full on, with clever use of photomontage ...more
Editorial Reviews — [1] ... Product Description | Now in paperback. Lauren Child’s spunky character returns and—as if things could get any livelier in Clarice Bean’s household—Uncle Ted is babysitting! Who can Mom and Dad get to babysit the feisty Clarice, her pesky brother Minal Cricket, and the school’s guinea pig, Albert, who’s visiting for spring break? (Not to mention teenage brother Kurt, who abhors daylight; big sis Marcie, who chats on the phone all day; and Grandad, who tends to wander off.) Only Uncle Ted, firefighter...more
[2] ... Review | When, for some strange reason, Clarice Bean's parents can't find anyone to babysit for a few days, they must resort to Uncle Ted, a firefighter ("so he wears special pants") who occasionally lassoes lamps and "can get you in a firefighter's carry before you can say 'Uncle Ted put me down!'" All goes well for a day or two, as Clarice Bean's daylight-despising older brother, phone-chatting big sister, accident-prone younger brother, and wandering Grandad, manage to say things like "please and thank you...more

American Woman: The Story of the Guess Who
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 4 Date: 1999-07-18 Summary: Very informative history. ... If you were American and into rock during the late Sixties and early Seventies, chances are that the only thing you knew about the Guess Who were their hits on AM radio. John Einarson's biography gives you much more information about one of Canada's best bands. I remember buying their album ROAD FOOD when it first came out---once you got past the "hits" that were on it (in this case, "Clap For The Wolfman" and "Star Baby"), you discovered other equally great songs that should've been more widely known. That was the ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 1998-02-06 Summary: A must-read for fans of The Guess Who ... The best thing about "American Woman" is that it brings us the tale of Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings, and the rest of the members of the Guess Who in a way that American fans of the group rarely had a chance to experience. Although the book is highly opinionated (particularly when it comes to looking back at the band's music), it delivers the odd yet gripping story of a band that, if it hadn't kept tripping over its own feet, might have been as big as The Eagles. This is vital reading for music fans who don't want ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 1997-11-14 Summary: Packed with good information on this incredible band ... John Einarson gives an insiders view on the Guess Who from their early days as Chad Allan and the Reflections to their becoming the Guess Who in 1965. Despite many changes in band personnel, the band continued to release good material, mostly written by Cummings and Kurt Winter. Lots of good stories and background information on the recording of each album from "Shakin' All Over" through "Power In The Music". Complete discography included. ...more

Guess Who (Jewel Case)
Customer Reviews — [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2003-06-22 Summary: Kids Loving It ... Took a while to get it up and running. It's an older game and doesn't really support WinXP out of the box. I got it to work by telling XP to run the game in Win95 compatibility mode. That at least eliminated a Indeo Codec message on launching the game which prevented it from getting past the error dialog. Then I needed to update my video driver because it was leaving the intro image on top of the game (rendering it unusable). After doing all that, the game is working well and both my kids (girls 7 & 9) are really having ...more
