Both volumes seem to go slower than other phonics workbooks we have tried but they are inexpensive enough that I don't mind skipping around and just using the pages I feel will be most beneficial. I ordered this book here after buying it at a homeschooling conference this spring and finding out I had purchased the old edition. I have tried other curriculum and I found this to be the best.So upon completing Level K I ordered Level A for first grade. It picks up where Level K left off. This is a really great curriculum. If you are just starting out homeschooling don't waste your money on others curriculums get this one. I never found any other Phonics book that was better than this one. It uses 5-6 standard formats that students get used to for a single page so they become independent workers once they know them (i.e. Circle all the words that start with the "s" sound, Find all the rhyming words, Spell the word or write the beginning consonant (i.e, Ss)for each picture, etc.). Those were my daughter's favorite parts. Lots of sight words and phonics activities. It was also great practice with writing and fine motor skills. Modern Curriculum Press Phonics, Level K I used this book years ago when my older children were learning to read and write in a Montessori school and now have found it again to work with my homeschoolers. The pictures have been updated and there are more parent enrichment ideas at the bottom of most pages. Even if you are not using a total phonics approach this book is helpful in recognizing, writing, and reinforcing letter sounds. I would highly recommend this book. ...more

I really appreciated this series. My youngest has many special needs and has gone to public school since the age of 3.
